Ancient Literature & Composition will meet at Lake Norman Baptist Church, Fridays 2:30 to 4 p.m. as part of the Pathway Christian CooperativeBeth Thetford Crossmon is the instructor.

This class will survey of literature beginning with creation and continuing through Ancient Rome. Because this is a survey class, students will be reading a few complete works and a sampling of many others. All works will be discussed in class so that by the end of the year, students will be familiar with not only the books, but the authors, plot and cultural significance of each.

Our literature journey will begin as we dive into ancient flood legends pointing back to the universal worldwide flood of Noah. We will then fly (via the internet, of course) to the Louvre Museum in Paris to examine the Babylonian stele containing The Code of Hammurabi, so that when we visit Moses in Ancient Israel, we can compare Ancient Babylonian law to the Ten Commandments. In Ancient China, we will sit under the teaching of Sun Tzu, who today, 2600 years after his death, continues to advise the world’s most influential managers and coaches worldwide in leadership skills. We will explore a cave with Plato, contemplate snacking on a succulent pear with Augustine, and “ponder virtue” for a while with Aristotle. Second semester, we will hop onboard a ship with Odysseus for a 10-year tour of Greece and the many isles of the Mediterranean Sea. And this is just to name a few of our adventures.
